Why I Started Using Paid Traffic Sources – Facebook Ads

A few years ago, I was testing a new Amazon store platform, Fresh Store Builder. I decided to create a toy store, since I like toys. I quickly built out a store, which was very easy to do with Fresh Store Builder, and then promptly forgot about it.

The Star Wars movie “The Force Awakens”, was coming out in the movies theaters and I thought this would be a good test to see if the store platform really worked, and if I could make a sale. I needed to get traffic to the store fast, and SEO (search engine optimization) would take more than I was willing to invest. So I started looking at paid traffic sources, and Facebook ads stood out.

I chose Facebook ads due to the its capability to target my avatar (ideal customer). Facebook offers large amount of big data, that when used with a proven strategy, can yield measurable results. So I created a campaign, put in $5 for one day, and pushed start. I forgot about the campaign and went to see the Star Wars movie.

On Monday, I had sold an item and made a $8.13 commission. I stared at the computer screen for a few minutes before it hit me. I had built a new site (amazon store), drove traffic to it using paid traffic (facebook ads), made a sale and profit ($8.13-$5=$3.13). This was an Aha moment. I can spend $5 to make $8. How many Lincolns ($5 dollar bills) can I get my hands on? Can I scale this up? Can I improve the ROI?

To make a long story short, my team and I have invested in our education, knowledge, and experience with Facebooks ads and now it is one of our major traffic sources we use for our clients, along with our proprietary behavior based client acquisition system.
